Leading world thinker speaks with students
Special guest for Formal Dinner on Monday 27th August was Göran Roos, recently named as one of the world’s 13 most influential thinkers for the 21st century.
Dr Roos spoke to the College about the cycles of change that play out in society and what they needed if they were going to have fulfilling and engaging lives in the wake of the current major change, the digital revolution.
He proposed to them that they needed to be people who could interact with others, and do so both locally and globally. They needed languages, he said, and the most useful language for them would be the language of mathematics. They also needed to develop their capacity to persuade rather than to argue, and to do this they needed to understand the perspectives of others.
Dr Roos’ visit and address made quite an impression on the students.
