The build up to this day was extraordinary! For some, 30 years had passed since they had walked out the front gates of 1 Palmer Place, North Adelaide, and hadn’t returned. The nerves were on high to see what had changed and whom.
From 11.00am they strolled in, as an unusual hush had descended on the city. This was the day, for the first time in 19 years that the Adelaide Football Club had made it into the AFL Grand final – so it seemed as if all of the state was interstate … except us!!
The Head of the College, Marist Brother Paul Gilchrist, allowed us the privilege of using the Davenport Room and the balcony of Montefiore House for our celebration – a room, which in our day, was reserved for the administration staff and clergy only.So many of us relished the fact that we finally were enjoying the historic house and the views of the city like never before while rekindling old memories of our time together.
The icing on the cake was meeting the 2017 Student Club executives who made themselves available all day to help out. The meshing of minds and mentoring avenues which opened up will come to fruit in the months ahead, I’m sure.
