Easter celebrations aplenty
April 7 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
After not being able to be held in 2020 due to COVID restrictions, one of the most anticipated events of the year went ahead at the beginning of April – the College’s annual Passover Seder.
In the context of a sumptuous meal, this Jewish celebration was a new experience for most students.
‘I didn’t know what to expect,’ said Tori Ross, a first-year student from Naracoorte. ‘But everyone really enjoyed it. It was just such a different way to touch into the story.’
Catering Manager, Deb Barton, reported that her team enjoyed doing both the research for the meal and preparing it according to traditional custom, making sure that all the elements required of a Passover meal were there.
‘Of course, it was no surprise that carving the lamb roast at each table was a highlight with the students,’ said Deb.
As is the practice at Aquinas, the meal was preceded by the Rector’s washing of the feet of several of the student leaders, recalling the action of Jesus in John’s Gospel which also took place before he and his disciples sat down for their Passover Seder.
The meal was just one of the ways the College marked Holy Week and Easter, with both religious and social events. The week culminated with a lavish seafood buffet on Easter Sunday for the students who were not able to be with their families on the day.
