Commonwealth Parliamentary Internships

The Australian National Internships Program is currently taking applications for Semester 1 2026 from students at universities across Australia interested in interning in the Commonwealth Parliament.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Internships are open to current undergraduate and postgraduate students from all academic disciplines.

For over thirty years, students have been travelling to Canberra as part of the ANIP program to undertake a policy research project in the Commonwealth Parliament and experience the heart of Australian politics and policy-making in an internship course that counts towards their degree.

The research projects undertaken in Parliament are directly related to student’s fields of study, students are given the choice of which Parliamentarian they intern with, and the internship is an ANU course that counts as cross-institutional study with the approval of their home academic program. Inter-state student usually travel to Canberra for at least two parliamentary sitting weeks during semester, while undertaking courses at their home university.

Applications close 30 September. Details on eligibility are at: https://anip.anu.edu.au/
