Aquinas takes the “doublé” in HTC Football

Men’s Football

The 2025 HTC footy campaign was certainly one to remember, with the Men bringing the Cup up the hill for the 5th year in a row!

In round 1 we started off against Lincoln, who we knew would be a challenging opposition. Thankfully, the team came ready to play and we ran away with a strong win. We then carried this momentum against Flinders, who showed great spirit in what was another strong victory for the Aquinas Men’s Team. These two strong victories put us in good stead for what would be a tough second week.

Our second week started off against St Ann’s who also showed great effort and intensity, but our Men stood tall and ran away with yet another convincing win to make us 3-0. Finally, we came up against St Mark’s who got a jump on us and had a small lead at the halftime break. 2 quick goals early in the second half proved to be the difference and we snuck away with a 7-point victory in what was a very hard-fought game.

It was a great effort from all our boys, with Brodie Allen, Eli Giddings, Cody Duncan, Charlie McGrath and Mackenzie Pickering being named as the best players.

Women’s Football

After many trials and trainings the teams were finally ready to kick start the first round of HTC footy dedicated to the Childhood Cancer Foundation. With players laced up in gold shoelaces the Women’s Team faced Lincoln College and Flinders University for their first round. Though it was a warm day, with the support of Aquinians and their parents, the Women were able to defeat both Lincoln and Flinders by margins of over 100 points.

Round 2, Indigenous Round, followed on the next Sunday. Both Men’s and Women’s Teams heading into it undefeated. The Women taking on St Ann’s first up  came out triumphant, riled up and ready to go against St Mark’s. Our last game against St Mark’s resulted in many bumps and falls, the Aquinas Women fighting hard to stay ahead of the game. A great game to watch and an even better one to play in as every girl stepped up, tackling and chasing down the ball. After a tough first 3 quarters the Women were finally able to run away with it kicking 4 goals in the last quarter and giving us the win. We then celebrated the doublé along with the Men, with cheers and smiles trailing back up to the top of the hill.
