Lizzy Dunn (nee Munday) reflects on her 4 years at Aquinas
Lizzy Dunn (Munday) (Aquinian 2009-2012)
I began my Aquinas journey in 2009. Being 2.5 hours away from Port Pirie it was still close enough to allow for comfortable visits home. I was fortunate to have had several cousins (Liam, Kate and Nick Connelly) and family friends (Sam Sheridan) attend before me, so I was eager to go and start my own adventure! A few of my classmates from school were also going and I enjoyed sharing the journey with them. Aquinas provided such a variety of academic, social and sporting experiences that helped me grow as a person in a fun and supportive environment.
I loved the Harry Potter vibes of Gleeson where I stayed throughout the duration of my time. There are so many fond memories I have of Aquinas; Wednesday pub nights, memorable corridor crawls, early morning footy training, themed shows, formal dinners, winning the High Table Cup, hours just sitting and chatting in the dining hall, painting in the art room, late nights studying during SWOT Vac, Br John and Evie guarding the gate as we trudged back from the Cath, bakery runs and late night ABs at the Blue and White.
I also held a couple of roles at Aquinas over the years, I was a Liturgical Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator and House Coordinator at various points. All great learning opportunities that pushed me out of my comfort zone. Another amazing opportunity was being sponsored to attend a tour of the Holy Lands, an experience that has stayed with me since, made more poignant by the current conflict.
I attended Aquinas during the entirety of my studies, completing a Bachelor of Primary and Middle School at Uni SA (Mawson Lakes) after 4 years
and was a 2012 Valetant. Since graduating, I have been teaching for over 13 years, in Port Lincoln, Port Pirie and now in Adelaide. I keep in close contact with a couple of great friends from College days, in particular Justin Lear and Michael Shaw and sporadically with others, both in person and via social media. My younger brothers (Pat and Matt Munday) also attended Aquinas, and we have all share a close friendship with Henry Wallis and Niall Ashby.
I married my husband Matthew Dunn in 2022, had my first child Melody in 2023 and my second child Douglas (Dougie) in 2025.
I completed my Lead Teacher certification in 2022 and am currently loving my job at St Mary’s College in Adelaide City, just down the road. We have built a house in Mile End and I love driving along Jeffcott Street and seeing the wolf mural as we go past.
I run into past Aquinians from various years all over the place, including a lot at work, and now have past students from all over the state attending Aquinas. I am always proud when another wolf joins the pack. I know they will have the best time and be supported through all the ups and downs of uni life! Go you wolves 🐺
