Aquinas smashes 3 records at HTC Swimming
A huge night of swimming at the SA Aquatic Centre for the first HTC event of 2025, saw Aquinas coming a very close second, by only 3 points, to St Mark’s College. Whilst swimming has not traditionally been a successful sport in the Aquinas HTC campaigns, this year the tides were turned.
In a night of fierce competition, three longstanding records were broken by the Aquinas Team, with First Year Albert An, studying Medicine from Cairns, leading the charge. The records broken were:
- Men’s 50 M Freestyle: Albert swam in a time of 24.53s, breaking the previous record by 0.45 seconds
- Men’s 50 M Breaststroke: Albert swam in a time of 30.14s, breaking the previous record by a whopping 1.28 seconds
- Men’s 4 X 50M Freestyle Relay: Tom Bignell, Albert An, Luke Donohue and Isaac McGrath swam in a time of 1:43:49, breaking the previous record of 1:44:05
The entire Team swam brilliantly and we celebrated the second place. Added to this, the Team appreciated the usual outstanding supporter base, with nearly the whole College in attendance. The Fresher Dance was well received, with Aquinas achieving a second place behind the tied first place performances of St Ann’s and Flinders Hall.
