Aquinas students raise thousands for Beyond Blue
The afternoon of Sunday 27 October saw Aquinians come together on the College lawns to raise funds for the organisation Beyond Blue.
Over four thousand dollars was raised on the day, money from the students’ own pockets.
Student Club Equity Officer, Ellie Breuer, who helped to organise the event, was very impressed by the generosity of her fellow Aquinians again this year.
“Even at the end of the academic year, when students’ personal funds are a little low, we managed to exceed last year’s total by over a thousand dollars,” said Ellie.
Each year, the students of Aquinas choose a worthy cause, and organise a live auction for a large number of donated items.
“It’s something that we always get around,” said Ellie. “Many students help in collecting and donating items to auction, and then all of us have a lot of fun bidding for them.”
“We take a Sunday afternoon, come together as a family, have a bit of madcap fun, and raise money for a deserving cause,” Ellie explained.
She said that since mental health was significant issue for many young Australians, it was something that the Student Club thought was important to support.
