Festival of Ashes events raise important scholarship funds for Aquinas students
It’s been an action-packed week for alumni and friends as cricket enthusiasts have gathered at the College to celebrate the end of year. The cricket provides the perfect opportunity for Aquinians to informally reunite, and it was great to hear reports of old friends meeting again after many years.
On Thursday 18 December Aquinas hosted the inaugural ‘Day 2 of the Test Cricket Club’ breakfast, which saw around 85 alumni and friends gather to enjoy breakfast on the Gleeson lawns. Despite the warm weather, guests gave generously to support a scholarship for a returning student in need, recognising the life changing opportunity that attending Aquinas can be for rural and regional students. Alumni in attendance included Matt Kelly (1993 – 1996, President in 1995), Danny Thornton (1992 – 1994) and Danny Thomson (1994 – 1996) (pictured above).
We also hosted a number of alumni parties for brunch before the first ball of the day, including Ryan Curry (2000 – 2002) and friends (pictured above), and Zac Borlace, Tara Wormald, Nick Hamilton, Nic Dawes, Khalil Hadland, Patrick Bush and Nathan Bailey who enjoyed a tour of the College and the chance to reminisce (pictured below).
We look forward to welcoming more alumni back to Aquinas in 2026, as we continue to build and develop our alumni and scholarship program.
