Women’s Netball
Aquinas started off our first game against Flinders, after Co-Coach and player Claire flew in from Melbourne with 20 minutes to spare! With Abbee dominating the goal circle and Millie making turnovers look like light work, we ended up winning by 16 goals. Moving into the next game we were feeling confident against Lincoln having had such a great game against Flinders. The initial line up stayed the same and it was closer than we thought. After making a few tactical changes based on player match ups, we ended up coming away with a 5 goal win. After lunch we played St Ann’s College, a tall and strong side. They came out with an aggressive game and we had to play catch up. The crowd really got behind us, we stuck to our game plan and managed to have another 5 goal win. Finally we faced St Mark’s. This was our last game, it had been a very hot day, not even the bottomless Powerades and Redbulls could revitalize us to the state we needed against St Mark’s. We ended up going down by 8 goals. Despite losing, we held our heads high and celebrated the wins we enjoyed. Overall it was an amazing day of good quality netball.
Men’s Netball 2025
The HTC netball day for the Men’s and Women’s teams was exceptional both on and off the court,. The team was quite competitive to start, with over 60 males trying out. A squad of 16 was then picked with 10 playing on the day with 2 reserves. To start the day we played St Mark’s. After a shaky first half adjusting to playing against unfamiliar opponents, we were down by 2 at halftime. In the second half we regained focus and played our style of netball. After a few big plays in defence by Jackson Bowden and James Gourley alongside accurate shooting we came out with a win by one goal.
Moving onto our next game, we played Lincoln College . The team struggled to adjust to umpires who were stricter on the rules! With many stepping calls and other mistakes, we found ourselves down by 5 goals and trailed the rest of the game. To Lincoln College’s credit, they shot very accurately, and we lost by 2 goals. However, the team was still hopeful we could win if we played well for the rest of the day.
After the lunch break, we played our third match against St. Ann’s. Then the team bounced back significantly well in the first half and held a strong 10 goal lead. The second half would remain a similar story with the team’s chemistry at a high and everyone was having a lot of fun. We won our third match by 16 goals and in our fourth match we beat Flinders by 20 goals. Unfortunately, St Mark’s beat Lincoln and went on to finish top with a higher percentage by only 3 goals overall for the day. Despite not winning the Cup, it was a great day. Coaches Toby and Eli and were super happy with the team’s effort and were thrilled to have the opportunity to coach the Men’s Netball Team. With several freshers in the team, the future is bright for the Men’s netball with our best players as follows:
Best – Jackson Bowden, Second best – Harry Mules, Third best – James Gourley
